The risk classification model ensures considerable cost savings on equipment maintenance
The quality of equipment maintenance often leaves room for improvement. Considerable savings can also be made on maintenance. How? Through risk-based maintenance, according to Marcel Hoge Bavel of Logitecq Medical.
Risk-based maintenance is a new form of maintenance management. The philosophy is based on alignment of the management and maintenance measures and analysed risks which affect the functioning of the devices. Especially to this end, Logitecq Medical has come up with a model which deviates from certain maintenance criteria, the so-called risk classification model, explains Hoge Bavel. “This model consists of a database of about 7,000 common devices. We have mapped out per device what type of maintenance is carried out. Is there a high risk? In that case, we follow the supplier’s instructions. If the risk is low, no or limited maintenance may be the answer. Preventive maintenance or premature preventive replacement is sometimes not necessary at all for example.”
According to Hoge Bavel this offers the big advantage of the costs being significantly below market. Ultimately, the customer even makes money because less maintenance is required. Before Logitecq Medical starts working with the risk classification model the organization first carries out a baseline-measurement. This determines the level of maintenance required. Logitecq Medical may optionally organize maintenance trainings for the staff.
